Focus Area

Politics & Planning

The city will always be a political being. The urban fabric is negotiated by its citizens and visitors everyday. Part of this navigation, is a perpetual pressure to plan the city; to organise the way it is lived and experienced. All sorts of people and organisations are involved in this planning process. Primarily, the citizens, the local municipality, and often NGOs and think tanks. Further, there are international organisations that help and organise how cities plan, the UNHabitat being the foremost such organisation.

We aim to promote a community centred form of urban planning, where citizens are placed at the heart of urban design. Further, we aim to think critically about what politics over and in the city looks like.
