Focus Area
Gender & Health
Issues of gender remain at the heart of cities today. City specific gender dynamics, negotiate the relationships between inhabitants, visitors, policy makers, other actors, and the built environment.
Spaces are necessarily gendered, and at the Oxford Urbanists we encourage urbanists and contributors to think about how cities are gendered spaces. Why, who, and how, are crucial question to ask in order to elicit the imaginations and feels of urban spaces.
Simultaneously, health issues, arise in numerous facets of cities. Sanitation infrastructure, hospitals, emergency services, pollution, and more all are inherently urban problems, and we, as urbanists, have to include the impact on health in our analyses.
